STI E-RA vs Tesla Model S Plaid

Tesla competitors regularly announce the release of electric vehicles that can compete with Elon Musk’s car in one category or another. At the recent Tokyo Motor Show, Subaru’s sports division unveiled the STI E-RA concept sports car, which could be a potential rival to the Tesla Model S Plaid production car.

Subaru Tecnica International (STI) is working on the global STI E-RA Challenge Project, which aims to introduce advanced technologies to the automotive industry that can prevent global warming. The STI E-RA sports car is an integral part of this project.

The STI E-RA concept electric sports car gets four electric motors – one for each wheel. The motors are developed by Yamaha, and their total power will be 1088 horsepower (800 kW). The torque is 1100 Nm. The capacity of the battery pack is 60 kWh. The travel radius on a single battery charge is not reported. The mass of the electric car is 1690 kg.

Developers from Subaru Tecnica International have already announced that their STI E-RA electric sports car is capable of completing one lap of the Nürburgring track in 6 minutes 40 seconds. That’s 50 seconds faster than the result of Tesla Model S Plaid, which completed the full lap of the track in September last year with a record (for electric vehicles) of 7 minutes and 30 seconds.
