Harley-Davidson Launches an eBicycle

About a year ago, Harley-Davidson representatives announced their intention to develop a project aimed at producing unique electric bicycles. The company has now unveiled a new electric bike that will go on public sale by March 2021. Harley-Davidson also announced the creation of a dedicated division, the Serial 1 Cycle Company, as part of its serious intentions to enter the bicycle market.

The name of the first electric bike, Serial 1, is inspired by the nostalgia for the very first motorcycle produced by Harley-Davidson in 1903, known as Serial Number One. The construction and design of the new bike is also similar to that of the company’s oldest motorcycle. This is evidenced by the white tires, a leather seat and a black gloss frame of Serial 1, resembling those of Serial Number One.

Harley-Davidson has not revealed the details of the future electric bikes and only shared a photo of Serial 1. Judging from the photos, Serial 1 has a mid-drive motor, a belt drive system (presumably the Gates Carbon system, which is known for its durability), a battery built in the frame, a headlight and taillights.

Harley-Davidson announced that the new Serial 1 Cycle company will be based on the Skunk Works Product Development Center, which has brought together “true motorcycle and bike enthusiasts” to create an e-bike worthy of the Harley-Davidson name.
