Volocopter from Germany is recognized as a leader in the emerging Urban Air Mobility (UAM) industry. In mid-November this year, the company conducted the first test flight of an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi Volocopter 2X with a crew. The test was conducted in an urban environment at Kipho International Airport in Seoul, South Korea.
The Volocopter 2X test flight lasted only five minutes and took place at an altitude of 50 meters at a speed of no more than 45 km/h. The range of the first flight with a crew on board was about 3 km. Demonstration tests, held as part of the Open City Sky events, were attended by Korean officials, as well as the representatives of the European Union delegation to the Republic of Korea and the German embassy.
The implementation of the Volocopter air taxi project in the Asian region started three years ago, when the German company opened a representative office in Singapore. A year later, the Germans conducted the first test flight of the eVTOL taxi.
The company is currently the only company in the industry to have received approval for its aircraft production project from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
In the future, Volocopter will develop routes for eVTOL taxis together with the Singapore-based logistics company Grab, providing passenger service between the largest cities in Southeast Asia.
