Klein Vision (Slovakia) conducted the first test flight of the AirCar prototype. The video of the first successful test was published by the founder, head of the company and renowned auto designer Stefan Klein.
The car developed by Klein Vision can move on public roads, and the process of transforming it into a flying car takes no more than three minutes. According to the developers, AirCar is well suited for using an unmanned control system and, in the future, can become the basis for a commercial taxi.
To transform from a traditional car into a flying vehicle, the rear spoiler is pushed back 60 cm, allowing AirCar to “spread its wings”. The process of converting folded wings is fully automated. A two-bladed propeller is used for takeoff and further flight. At the end of the flight, the wings are retracted back into the car, and then it moves like a traditional road vehicle.
The ultralight two-seater is powered by BMW’s 1.6-liter 140 horsepower engine, according to a company press release. Klein Vision startup also says it will have a range of around 1,000 km (620 miles) and a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). It is planned to create three- and four-seater cars, equip some models with two engines, and also bring to the market amphibious vehicles designed for landing on water (underwater mode is not provided).
