Audi has unveiled the concept model of the Audi AI: TRAIL quattro off-roader, which is packed with high-tech solutions that enable seamless travel across rough terrain and the city.
The concept is equipped with four engines, each of which drives one wheel. The total torque is 1,000 Nm, and the total engine power is 320 kW. The electronic system independently controls the operation of the engines, which eliminates the need to use various tricks for movement over rough terrain. The clearance of 34 cm and the wheel diameter of 22 inches allows the off-roader to cross water barriers with a depth of 0.5 meters.
The battery is designed for a range of 500 km on the highway and 250 km on difficult terrain. The maximum speed is limited to 130 km/h. The mass of the car assembled from aluminum and carbon fiber is about 1,750 kg.
When moving around the city and on highways, the car can use Level 4 unmanned control (completely without the driver’s intervention). Moving on dirt roads allows you to use Level 3 unmanned control – driving in an unmanned mode at a low speed.
The off-roader is equipped with numerous scanners and sensors that signal dangerous sections of the road. The main and additional LED headlights provide road lighting. However, the driver is going to be assisted by the delivery of five Audi Light Pathfinders drones and Audi Light Companion lights.
Drones can independently take off and land on the roof of the car, where there are special ports for wireless drone recharging. The information from drones is transmitted by cameras to the screen inside the car. The main function of the drones is to illuminate the road, and they are controlled by the automobile AI.
Special Audi Light Companion lights with magnets are mounted in the cabin. Their main task is internal lighting and additional light when traveling outside the car. In the lanterns, there is a navigation system indicating the path to the Audi AI: TRAIL off-roader.
