Amazing Jetson One: Recreational All-Electric Personal VTOL Aircraft

While leading automakers are developing a strategy for introducing eVTOL flying cars, a small startup from Sweden has created and successfully sold the first batch of “ultralight” single-seat Jetson One cars, which, according to US law, do not require a driver’s license.

The Jetson One purchaser receives a half-assembled kit that includes an aluminum and carbon fiber frame, electronic engine control, propellers and motors themselves, and a DIY final assembly guide.

Eight rotors keep Jetson One stable in flight and provide adequate thrust from four engines with a total output of 118 hp. The compact flying object is controlled by a throttle valve, joystick and two pedals. Even if one of the engines fails, the developers promise the continuation of normal controlled flight.

A small display the size of a modern smartphone provides the Jetson One pilot with all the information he needs. Safety is ensured by a triple-redundant onboard computer and LIDAR sensors, which track the terrain and prevent collisions with obstacles. A ballistic parachute is in stock for emergencies.

The total weight of the device is 90 kg with overall dimensions of 2845x2400x1030 mm. This makes it easy to transport Jetson One and store in a standard garage. The maximum flight speed is 102 km/h, the weight of the pilot should not exceed 85 kg. The flight duration is only 20 minutes, after which the lithium-ion battery will need to be recharged.

All 12 devices, slated for production in 2022, have already been reserved by users in the United States, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Sweden and Brazil. Two Jetson One aircrafts out of five planned devices are already assigned to US customers for 2023. The Jetson One Private Electric Flying Car can be reserved by posting a $22,000 deposit, which will then be included in the $92,000 sale price.
