Sharp Corporation has prepared to demonstrate the next-generation display, created with the help of the microelectromechanical system (MEMS) technology, at the CEATEC 2013 exhibition.
The development of the panel was conducted with the support of Qualcomm. Each pixel of the screen emits red, green and blue light in rapid succession. The flow is adjusted by microscopic MEMS-shutter. Similarly, you can get the desired shade by dosing the amount of light for each of the three colors.
In contrast to conventional liquid crystal displays, MEMS-panel lacks light filters. The main advantages of the new screen type include bright and vivid images as well as reduced power consumption. The last parameter is particularly important when it comes to the screens of mobile devices.
The presented prototype of the MEMS-panel has a diagonal of 7 inches. Its resolution is 1280×800 pixels.
Sharp also demonstrated a version of the screen, capable of functioning in several modes with reduced power consumption.
