At the end of last year, Samsung held a closed event to present a prototype of their first folding smartphone, Galaxy Fold. The commercial version was announced at the beginning of this year. However, the first models of the flexible device, which fell into the hands of journalists, failed very quickly. As a result, Galaxy Fold’s mass production was postponed until the company eliminated the design flaws, which quickly led to the smartphone’s damage.
As they now say at Samsung, the company’s engineers have refined the design of the new product. In the near future, the manufacturer will start selling the updated version. The modified Galaxy Fold will be available in September. The gadget, as before, will cost the declared $1980.
It has been reported that the protective top layer at the screen of the modified smartphone has expanded beyond the verge of its front panel. It is meant to show the users it is an integral structural part of the display, not intended for removal.
In addition, the developers have improved the protection of Galaxy Fold against ingress of foreign elements inside. Thus, the lower and upper parts of the hinges were reinforced with new protective caps. The screen is protected by additional metal substrates. The developer has also reduced the free space between the case and the hinge of the gadget. All this should remove the risks of an early breakdown.
