The highlight of the recent OPPO INNO Day 2020 presentation in China was the demonstration of a workable prototype of the OPPO X 2021 smartphone equipped with an extendable screen. The current model of the device is available to specialists who have shown the real use of a smartphone in various modes.
Smartphones with extendable screens have recently been developed and marketed by many leading companies. However, OPPO engineers used the original previously patented idea with an extendable rather than a folding screen in their OPPO X 2021 device.
The demo video shows that you need to slide your finger along the side of the screen to extend it. You can also see that rendering of the screen image changes smoothly as the display area increases. When folded, the OPPO X 2021 smartphone has a 6.7-inch screen and a body width of 70 mm. When fully extended, the screen gets a 7.4-inch diagonal, and the width increases to 107 mm.
Automatic screen extension is provided by two motors, and the OLED panel is folded to the back, which eliminates the wrinkles forming on smartphones with fold-out displays.
The OPPO X 2021 Concept Smartphone video demonstrates the possibilities of using various applications. When the screen size is changed in some applications, the interface is automatically rebuilt, new sections and menus appear, and they are inaccessible with a “narrow” screen.
At present, OPPO has not announced the launch date of the OPPO X 2021 model and has not announced the expected price of the original device.
