Hydrogen-Powered Drone Taxi Skai by Alaka’i Technologies

Urban passenger transportation with the help of flying vehicles is one of the most promising fields. The main advantage of innovative transport is the use of alternative energy sources -electricity, sunlight etc. The new taxi created by the American company Alaka’i Technologies is distinguished by the highest ecological safety due to the use of hydrogen-powered engines.

The design of the Skai aircraft was led by BMW Designworks engineers. Six electric motors, fueled by hydrogen, are used for movement.

Skai flying taxi can lift cargoes weighing up to 454 kg. At full load, the flight duration is 4 hours. The flight radius is 643 km. Compact dimensions and vertical take-off allow Skai to easily be used in a densely populated city where there is a shortage of parking spaces.

Skai taxi is designed to carry four passengers and a pilot or five passengers when operating in an unmanned automatic mode. The developers believe that the new aircraft will be used in the rescue service to evacuate people and in the ambulance service for prompt delivery of patients to medical institutions.

In a fully unmanned mode, Skai can be used as a base station to provide mobile commuting over a specific area for 10 hours. Details about the cost of Skai and the time of testing have not been announced yet.
