Electric Adventure Vehicles Rivian Can Turn in Place

Thanks to the original layout of electric motors, modern electric cars are capable of carrying out a variety of manoeuvres, previously inaccessible to cars with ICE. A few months ago, the insiders “leaked” a video showing the so-called “tank U-turn” in place of the Rivian R1S crossover and the Rivian R1T electric-powered pickup truck.

Rivian startup, engaged in the development of these electric vehicles, has just confirmed such capabilities of its cars by presenting an official video.

After analyzing the presented video, you can understand how Rivian R1S and Rivian R1T can turn literally in place. The rear and front wheels on one side of the cars rotate in the opposite direction from the rotation of the wheels on the other side, which is similar to the movement of tank tracks when turning in place.

Four engines help ensure such a manoeuvre, one for each wheel, with the possibility of individual control. Rivian also plans to produce an economical version of electric vehicles with two engines. Such models will no longer be able to conduct a tank turn.

Technical characteristics of electric cars Rivian R1T pickup truck and Rivian R1S crossover, created on a single platform, provide for the achievement of a total power of 300 to 562 kW when four engines are installed. Depending on the battery capacity, the power reserve can come in three variations. With 105 kWh batteries, the autonomous distance will be 370 km, with 135 kWh the cars will cover 480 km, and in case of 180 kWh, the cars will travel up to 640 km without recharging.
