Gaming smartphones are numerous, and all of them can boast high-quality cooling, made according to the manufacturers’ design. However, Nubia, which is owned by ZTE, is ready to offer a more advanced and thoughtful solution – this is the first smartphone with an active cooling system.
A cooler has been installed inside Nubia Red Magic 3, which is similar to those found in laptops and computers. It tracks the temperature inside the device and the 7 nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with Adreno 640 graphics, 6/8/12 GB of operational (LPDDR4x) and 64/128/256 GB of internal (UFS 2.1) flash memory. The turbofan rotates at a speed of 14,000 rpm while consuming only 1% charge per hour, or 50 mAh. Air enters the smartphone through the vent holes on the side and exits through the decorative grate on the back surface of the case. As the manufacturer assures, the device practically does not heat up even after a couple of hours of performance.
For gamers, the developer has created sensory triggers on the side, just like in the competitor ASUS ROG Phone model, added the vibration response of the device to the rhythm of explosions and shooting in-game scenes, the ability to use a fingerprint sensor as an additional control button, a noise-canceling microphone for communication during games, the speed control cooler mode Picture-in-Picture and many other innovations.
To ensure long-term autonomy, the novelty was also supplied with a capacious 5000 mAh battery which supports USB Power Delivery fast charging with the capacity of 27 W, which affected the thickness of the device – 9.65 mm. In this case, Nubia Red Magic 3 looks similar to the previous models of the gaming lineup Red Magic. The 6.65-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution (2340×1080 pixels, 19.5:9 aspect ratio) has a frame frequency of 90 Hz (you can reduce the figure to the standard 60 Hz in the settings). The maximum screen brightness is 430 nits, and the response time is 4 seconds. The stereo speakers are located above and below. Support for standard DTS: X and the effect of three-dimensional sound for the headset and without it have been announced.
The main ordinary camera is a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with the ability to record video in the 8K format and shoot slow-motion videos at a frequency of 1920 fps. The front camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture, face recognition function and AI algorithms.
Among other things, we note the presence of Wi-Fi wireless modules (802.11a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz) and Bluetooth 5.0, GPS satellite navigation systems, GLONASS and Beidou, 3.5-mm connector, USB Type-C port, 4G/LTE modem, IP55 protection and Android 9.0 Pie OS with Redmagic OS 2.0 interface, to which the company made minimal changes. The fingerprint scanner remained on the back side; there is also a vertical, customizable RGB backlight which supports 16.8 million colors.
According to Nubia, the smartphone is able to work for 8.5 hours when playing 3D games or more than 9 hours when watching videos and lasts for almost 13.5 hours of active web surfing. 10 minutes of charging will enable the device to play for another hour.
Nubia Red Magic 3 has the dimensions of 171.7×78.5×9.65 mm and a weight of 215 grams. It will go on sale from May 3 in black, fiery-red, camouflage and red-blue color of the case. In China, the price of the novelty with 6+64 GB, 6+128 GB, 8+128 GB and 12+256 GB will be $430, $475, $520 and $640, respectively.
