Waterproof Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet

Sony has released for sale a new 10-inch tablet computer named Xperia Z2, which was announced at the MWC 2014 exhibition. As the name implies, the model is an evolution of the last year’s model Z1. It is very difficult to stand out among the diversity of android tablets, so Sony and its experts decided to bet on a waterproof body of the new product. As a matter of fact, all modern tablets are protected from splashing and rain, but Xperia Z2 is capable of being fully submerged under water without consequences.

An overview of the waterproof Sony Xperia Z2 tablet

The device is made of glass and aluminum. Its record thickness is just 6.4 mm, and it weighs just 426 g. The microUSB port and microSD card slot are located next to one another on the end and are hidden under special covers. The rear panel has a solid matte design. The camera is in the corner. In general, the tablet has a very stylish appearance, but the experience is spoiled by a rather broad frame of the screen. One can only see the front camera there, while touch or hardware buttons are not available. The body is certified according to the IP58 standard, which guarantees safety to the depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Thus Xperia Z2 Tablet can be used without fear not only in the kitchen, but also lying in the bath. However, do not forget to close the connectors just before the expected dip.

Display

The tablet screen has a diagonal of 10.1 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It uses just two proprietary technologies to improve image quality – Triluminos and X-Reality. This provides an excellent level of brightness, contrast and vibrant colors, which, although slightly inferior in brightness to iPad Air, look more natural. The viewing angles are very broad, and the sensitivity of the touch interface is well-functioning.

Technical equipment and performance

Powered by the Snapdragon 801 processor with four cores and 2.3 GHz frequency, this gadget has 3 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, which, of course, can be extended with a microSD card for another 64 GB. There is a standard set of sensors, a GPS receiver, WiFi modules and Bluetooth, as well as built-in LTE-modem. The latter will not be available in all versions. For playing audio, a pair of surprisingly powerful speakers with decent sound is available. Such hardware provides an opportunity to work with a variety of browser tabs.

Operating system

Sony Xperia Z2 runs on an almost unchanged version of Android KitKat. Typical applications, such as Walkman, Movies, Album and What’s New apps, were added, as well as some elements of the interface.

Camera

The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels, and the front camera has 2.2 megapixels. They do not possess any special qualities, but their abilities are enough for making simple shots and a video chat.

Autonomy

Sony Xperia Z2 is powered by a built-in battery with the capacity of 6000 mA/h. It will not have to be recharged frequently. When tested by a looped HD video with the WiFi enabled and a half of the screen brightness, the tablet battery lasts for over 9 hours.
