The US Patent Office has approved the application filed by the Samsung company. Contact lenses with the embedded virtual reality technology have finally been registered. The novelty has a micro-display that allows the user to receive a lot of useful information. For example, you can consider the direction of movement or identify the desired object from a distance without getting your smartphone out of your pocket.
The application document has already appeared on the network. It has a picture that schematically depicts the lenses with a tiny display, a video camera, and other elements. There is even a motion sensor and a capacitor that feeds the microcircuit. All electronics is going to be “packaged” in the hydrogel that is used to manufacture conventional contact lenses.
Any useful information will be sent from an external device to the display and from there projected directly onto the eye retina. You can also place additional micro lenses in the transparent layer of the gadget that will allow you to adjust the picture.
It is not yet known when commercial prototypes of the device will appear and how much they can cost.
