LG’s new line of flagship TVs is available today only to those users who are unlikely to worry about the price. Huge TVs using Direct View LED (LG DVLED) technology are going to compete with similar devices with millions of LEDs offered by Samsung (The Wall) and Sony (Crystal LED).
LG’s DVLED Home Cinema Display series offers wealthy customers a huge variety of TV panel sizes with various screen resolutions to choose from. These are relatively small 2K devices with diagonals ranging from 108 to 196 inches, as well as more advanced models with 4K resolution screens from 163 to 393 inches. The main product of the line is a TV with a resolution of 8K and a diagonal of 325 inches.
The flagship 325-inch 8K TV has 33 million LEDs, and the pixel pitch (the distance between the centers of two adjacent pixels) is 0.9 mm. In the more affordable models of the line, the pixel pitch is in the range from 1.2 to 1.5 mm (HD or 2K resolution). The peak brightness is 1200 nits.
The weight of the TV with a diagonal of 325 inches and cost of 1.7 million dollars is comparable to the weight of the compact Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible and is about one ton.
