Eyeglasses with a Solar Panel

It is fashionable to use the energy of the sun for charging mobile gadgets. To do this, solar batteries are introduced wherever possible. German scientists from the Karlsruhe Institut have developed special glasses that generate electricity from solar panels that act as lenses.

Organic solar parts have replaced the usual silicon analogs. This model is transparent, light, flexible and takes any shade and shape. One plate of this kind is just over one and a half millimeters thick and weighs six grams. Solar panels are applicable in the rims of sunglasses and are produced on a serial basis.

Such lenses are ideal under direct sunlight. After all, each of them generates up to 200 mW of power, lighting a room up to 500 LC. This coincides with the average statistical parameters of illumination of almost all living rooms and offices. Two hundred milliwatts is not so much. However, this is quite enough to power a pedometer or a hearing aid. The development can also be applied on windows, which makes it possible to produce a lot of energy.
