Sony, who announced plans to develop its Airpeak project and produce drones for professional users in the photo and video industry last November, unveiled the first proprietary drone capable of working with the Sony Alpha full-frame mirrorless camera. The demonstration was held at CES 2021 and according to the developers, the new Airpeak is becoming the smallest drone capable of dynamic shooting and guaranteeing high-precision, stable flight with a full-frame Alpha camera on board.
Detailed technical parameters of the first drone from Sony were not disclosed. During the presentation, the company focused on the drone’s ability to perform high-quality dynamic shooting in stable flight.
‘Airpeak [is] the industry’s smallest class of drone that can be equipped with the Alpha system.’
The demo video shows footage of the VISION-S test engine for a Sony concept car.
The Airpeak drone is known to have its own front-facing camera and a distance sensor, which helps controlling the invention and involves the use of artificial intelligence (presumably). High-precision control will allow the drone to effectively avoid obstacles and clearly reach the shooting target.
The official presentation of the new drone is likely to take place in the spring of this year. This is when Sony is expected to reveal more details on Airpeak’s autonomous flight duration and range. Considering that professional users will become the main consumers of drones capable of carrying a full-frame camera, the price of the device will be high.
