The scientists from Georgia Institute of Technology have developed a new type of sunglasses lenses, which can darken at the touch of a button.
The future owner of such glasses can activate darker shades depending on the situation – for example, while driving a car in the direction of the sun. The researchers from the Institute say that in the blackout mode such lenses can block up to 70% of the incoming light. These lenses are based on special electrochromic polymers that are responsive to electric current. When the current is passing through such glasses, blackout occurs after a few seconds.
The developers claim that if you want commercial production of the glasses with similar lenses, it can be arranged during a very short period.
